Appreciating an ultra-elegant, richly layered Chardonnay in the company of wine lovers is what memories are made of, and Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Chardonnay 2015 certainly fits the bill.
This wine literally bursts with flavour unlocked from slow ripening, well nurtured grapes from hand-selected parcels of vines grown in Stellenbosch.
“I particularly love this Chardonnay because it is a beautiful example of the personality, femininity and precision embodied by Fleur du Cap. I am proud to be part of the crafting process of this exceptionally well-balanced wine,” says winemaker Kristin Basson.
The Chardonnay was matured for nine months in second (60%) and third (40%) fill French oak barrels specifically chosen to underline the elegant, yet bold character of the wine, achieving the perfect marriage between the fruit and wood nuances. After careful consideration, only the best batches were selected for the final blend to create a wine that is smooth, rich and beautifully layered with the ability to mature for another two to three years.
The new 2015 vintage has big shoes to fill after the Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Chardonnay 2014 brought home gold from Chardonnay du Mode in France last year.
“I enjoy drinking this wine chilled on its own especially during the crisp autumnal months but it is also a great food wine,” says Basson, who is responsible for Fleur du Cap white wines at Die Bergkelder.
It is a great match with sage enriched pork belly or Mediterranean chicken but the subtle flavours also meld beautifully with seafood bouillabaisse or peach and goat milk filo pastries.
Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Chardonnay 2015 is available at select fine dining restaurants and boutique wine stores. It sells at a cellar door price of R119 per bottle at Die Bergkelder in Stellenbosch, or purchase it online at the Vinotèque.
